Minneapolis residents have been demanding that the 30-day ban on evictions be extended to 60 days, but Mayor Frey just vetoed this proposal, claiming that evictions are not up recently, therefore no need to extend. But I believe the activists were aiming at coming evictions; the effects of the ICE campaign on worker incomes is still relatively recent and evictions are probably coming soon on a large scale. Many Minneapolis workers are immigrants and have had to stay at home from work and essentially hide out to avoid arrest and deportation. The anti-ICE activist movement campaigned for the extended ban on evictions so support the immigrant workers. thus opening a new front in the anti-ICE struggle.
