Israeli pilots win double-tap prize

Israeli pilots won the prize for brutality on August 27 as they bombed the Nasser Hospital in Gaza four times in a row, hitting the same target in the exact same place. After the first bomb exploded and killed a video reporter for Reuters news agency named Hussam al-Masri, rescuers ran to the spot to see what they could do to help. As they began clearing wreckage and uncovering victims, a second plane dropped another bomb, killing an additional 19 people, including five journalists. (1) Military experts call this a “double tap”, killing humanitarian rescuers on top of the original victims. After waiting awhile, and letting rescue efforts resume, Israeli pilots returned and repeated the scenario with another double tap in the exact same place. This “double-double” upped their kill to 22 for the day. Add that to the tens of thousands already massacred by the Israelis. This ongoing atrocity includes many thousands of noncombatants, children as well as adults, and 189 Palestinian journalists working for international news agencies like Reuters, AP, and al-Jazeera.

It's not as if Mr. al-Masri was difficult to find. A Reuters spokesman said they had alerted the Israeli armed forces that they had set up a live video feed on top of the hospital, and they provided the Israelis with the exact GPS coordinates so their military would be warned away. Even so, after the event the IDF tried to justify the murder by saying they had spotted a “Hamas camera” on top of the hospital. But Mr. al-Masri had nothing to do with Hamas. He was a respected journalist documenting the difficulties of life in Gaza.

Atrocities like this are making it difficult for Western nations to justify their continued support for Israel. EU foreign ministers are meeting in Copenhagen this week to try and hammer out a united position on the war in Gaza. (2) They are walking a difficult line, politically, trying to mollify concerns about the genocide while not really making a stand for Palestinian self-determination. They would like the Israelis to take it easy with the massacre while not staking out a position critical of U.S. imperialism and Trump. Some European countries are proposing a cutoff of ties with Israel, while others oppose that step. One proposal is to cut Israel off from new scientific research in Europe, which would hurt the Israelis, since they are trying to develop Israel as a center for hi-tech manufacturing. It’s good that some countries are willing to take some steps against the ongoing genocide in Gaza, even though Israel’s main backer, the United States, continues pouring offensive military weapons into Israel. President Trump is not at all embarrassed by Israeli atrocities as he urges Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to hurry up and “finish the job.” (3)

Trump is interested in developing Gaza as a profitable real estate venture; he has plans to develop a new Riviera there. But he couldn’t care less about the people there. He’s developed a plan to buy off the residents, give them $5,000 to relocate (somewhere), and change Gaza into a resort and manufacturing center. (4) This scheme will operate under a new venture called GREAT, which stands for Gaza Reconstruction Economic Acceleration and Transformation Trust. Trump, the great grifter, will offer each property-owner in Gaza a digital certification of property rights -- this will be signified by a promise of crypto currency held by GREAT, which supposedly will be worth something in the future. GREAT will operate as part of GHF, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. This is the food-distribution scheme which Trump and Netanyahu set up to try and deflect criticism for starvation in Gaza. But the GHF distribution sites turned out to be killing zones for Israeli tanks and machine guns. So GREAT doesn’t actually sound very great for the Palestinians.
